at the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP 31)

JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Kazuyoshi Fukuda; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; the “Company”) was selected*1 as one of the 15 exhibiting companies at the Japan Pavilion at the 31st UN Climate Change Conference*2 (COP 31), to be held in Antalya, the Republic of Türkiye, from November 9 to 20, 2026.
This will be the Company’s second exhibition at a COP, following its participation in the Japan Pavilion at COP 27, held in Egypt in 2022. At COP 27, the Company presented its track record of waste-to-energy technology and its greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)*3, broadly promoting itself to visitors from around the world as a company with proven technologies that contribute to a decarbonized society.
At COP 31, in addition to the above initiatives, the Company will showcase its Waste-to-Chemical technology based on gasification (the “Technology”), one of only a few such technologies worldwide. The Company is currently conducting a demonstration project utilizing the Technology under the “Green Innovation Fund Projects: Achieving Carbon Neutrality in Waste and Resource Circulation” of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). In June 2026, the Company completed a small-scale demonstration test (treatment capacity: 20 t/day) and is planning a full-scale demonstration test.
At the core of the Technology is the Company’s proprietary C-PhoeniX Process®*4, the world’s only process capable of gasifying a wide variety of waste and enabling a stable supply of high-quality purified synthesis gas. Because the purified synthesis gas produced through this process consists primarily of hydrogen (H₂) and carbon monoxide (CO), it can be used as a raw material for plastics and SAF*5, as well as a source of hydrogen. By reducing CO₂ emissions from waste incineration and the use of fossil-derived raw materials, the Technology contributes to significant CO₂ emission reductions and stands as a next-generation waste treatment process supporting more advanced resource circulation.
The Company will continue to leverage the technologies and expertise it has cultivated in waste treatment and resource circulation to contribute to decarbonization and the realization of a circular economy both in Japan and abroad.
