JFE Engineering Corporation

JFE Engineering Corporation (President: Hajime Ōshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. (President: Keita Katō, Head Office: Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as "Sekisui Chemical") jointly proposed "Waste-to-Chemical technology development for Green Ethanol production by integration of Advanced Gasification and Biochemical conversion technologies," and has been adopted for implementation*1 by the "Green Innovation Fund Project: Achieving Carbon Neutrality in Waste and Resource Circulation" publicly solicited by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

We have been developing the "C-PhoeniX Process®*2 ," which gasifies various types of waste and allows for a stable supply of high-quality refined synthesis gas. This process, when combined with Sekisui Chemical's biorefinery technology*3 for ethanol production from waste-derived refined synthesis gas (under development), will pave the way to an innovative "Waste-to-Chemical Process" for producing chemical raw materials from waste.

Our proposed process holds the promise of early practical use in society, bypassing the need for a hydrogen network. It has the unique capability to self-generate hydrogen (H2) required to synthesize chemicals within the process. We will utilize the Green Innovation Fund to further accelerate our development of the "C-PhoeniX Process®."

Through this technology development,JFE Engineering and Sekisui Chemical aim to establish a conversion process from waste to chemical raw materials and practical use in society by 2030. This joint development will contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
