Developing the Advanced Waste-to-Chemical Gasification Process, the "C-PhoeniX Process®" Towards Practical Use in Society

JFE Engineering Corporation

JFE Engineering Corporation (President: Hajime Ohshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has named its newly advanced gasification technology as the "C-PhoeniX Process®"*1 (abbreviated as "CX Process®"*2) and has designated a logo mark. We aim to apply it practically in society in the waste treatment field.

The design is derived from a waste gasification reforming technology originally introduced in Europe in 1997 and carefully improved by engineers over 20 years. As a result, we have established a gasification and reforming technology for a wide variety of waste, including general waste, and have the world's only long-term operational record on top of unparalleled experience.

The "C-PhoeniX Process®" currently under development aims to further enhance the capability to produce high-quality purified synthesis gas from a wide range of waste while maintaining the ability to process waste reliably.
Establishing this "C-PhoeniX Process®" will allow us to stably produce purified synthesis gas primarily composed of hydrogen (H2) and carbon monoxide (CO) from diverse waste materials. This can be applied in various "Waste-to-Chemical Processes," such as using purified synthesis gas as raw materials for plastics, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)*3, and as a source of hydrogen.

We are accelerating the development of the "C-PhoeniX Process®" for practical use aiming for carbon neutrality in the waste processing field. Our efforts in developing this process will contribute to realizing a sustainable circular economy.

  • *1 The "C" in C-PhoeniX represents the "C" in "Carbon in waste" and "Chemical raw material." "PhoeniX" symbolizes waste being reborn as a chemical raw material from the gasification process. The combination of these elements expresses the idea that carbon in waste is continuously reborn as a chemical raw material through the gasification process. C-PhoeniX Process® is a registered trademark.
  • *2 Taking inspiration from "DX" (Digital transformation), which signifies the transformation of life and business through digital technology, "CX" embodies the idea of converting carbon into chemical raw materials and transforming the structure of waste circulation. CX Process® is a registered trademark.
  • *3 SAF stands for "Sustainable Aviation Fuel."
