JFE Engineering Group Receives Order for WtE Power Plant in Scotland, UK

JFE Engineering Corporation
Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH

Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH (hereinafter, SBG), a German subsidiary of JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), has received an order for the waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant in Irvine, Scotland in the United Kingdom.

In the United Kingdom, approximately 40% of residual waste (after recycling) is still landfilled, as in the past, and this has become a serious issue due to national environmental policies and a shortage of landfill sites. Construction of WtE power plants is progressing against this background, as these facilities also enable effective utilization of the energy contained in the waste.

This project was ordered by Octopus Renewables, a UK-based renewable energy investment company, to a consortium consisting of Sterling and Wilson Solar Ltd, an Indian EPC Company, STC Power S.r.l., an Italian plant construction company, and its parent company Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Private Limited. The plant will have a treatment capacity of 557 tons/day of waste with one incinerator, and will supply electricity equivalent to the consumption of Approx. 36,000 general households. SBG's scope is to design and construct the grate combustion system and the steam generator (boiler island).

SBG has been involved in the design and construction of Approx. 120 WtE power plants to date. In addition, SBG is one of the leading companies for plant installations for WtE and biomass power plants in Scotland. This SBG's proven track record brought us the order,

The JFE Engineering Group will continue to contribute to create a recycling society in the future by mobilizing the group's total capabilities to promote proposals for WtE power plants in countries throughout the world.
