JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has signed a Commercial Cooperation Agreement on Waste to Chemical (WtC) with NextChem S.p.A. (CEO: Pierroberto Folgiero, Head Office: Rome, Italy), which is a 100%-owned subsidiary of Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. (Chairman: Fabrizio Di Amato, Head Office: Milan, Italy.)
Maire Tecnimont Group (MTG), headed by Maire Tecnimont SpA listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, is a global plant engineering group in petrochemical, fertilizer, oil & gas refining, power, and renewables with advanced technological and executive skills. MTG is present in 45 countries, having 50 operating companies in worldwide, including NextChem, operating in the field of green chemistry and technologies for the circular economy and energy transition for carbon footprint reduction.
The purpose of this cooperation is to develop WtC process for hydrogen, ammonia, urea, methanol and ethanol production from solid waste. Utilizing experiences of the waste gasification for power generation on around 20 commercial projects in the last two decades, JFE Engineering will play the role in the development of the waste gasification producing synthesis gas, which is intermediate product gas in WtC process. Both companies will start from techno-economical study of WtC process using the waste gasification and aim to deliver whole WtC process on a commercial basis in the future as a final target of the cooperation.
Through the commercialization of WtC technologies, JFE Engineering will encourage transition of fuel and product lifecycle from feedstock to disposal to circular economy as well as reduction of carbon dioxide emission in order to achieve SDG 7 "Clean Energy," 12 "Responsible Consumption and Production," and 13 "Climate Action."
