JFE Engineering Group Receives Order for WtE Power Plant in Scotland, UK

12 September 2019
JFE Engineering Corporation
Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH

Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH (hereinafter, SBG), a subsidiary of JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has received an order for a waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant in Aberdeen, Scotland in the United Kingdom. This order covers the main equipment of the plant, including the incinerator, boiler and flue gas treatment system.

In the United Kingdom, approximately 45% of residual waste (after recycling) is still landfilled, as in the past, and this has become a serious issue due to national environmental policies and a shortage of landfill sites. Construction of WtE power plants is progressing against this background, as these facilities also enable effective utilization of the waste heat generated in the waste incineration process.

The order received by SBG is for a WtE plant being planned by ACCIONA, a global group that develops and manages sustainable infrastructure solutions and renewable energy projects worldwide.

This plant will have a treatment capacity of 456 tons/day with one incinerator, and will generate electric power equivalent to the consumption of about 20,000 general households.

SBG has already constructed 116 WtE power plants, mainly in Europe. In addition to this proven track record, this order was also awarded based on a high evaluation of SBG's boiler technology, and the high availability of the WtE plant that SBG delivered in Plymouth, England.

The JFE Engineering Group will continue to contribute to create a recycling society in the future by mobilizing the total technological capabilities of the group to promote proposals for WtE plants in countries around the world.
