The new plan "Iwata Zero-Emi Denki" will be applied at Yamaha Stadium starting in March 2019. The plan is a new service provided by Smart Energy Iwata Corporation (President: Yoshihisa Kogasaka; Head Office: Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture), a regional electricity retailer owned by JFE Engineering Corporation (President: Hajime Oshita; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo).

Corporate environmental awareness has been increasing in recent years, and even in Iwata, where the manufacturing industry is flourishing, there is increasing demand for electricity with low environmental impact, such as renewable energy. To meet these needs, Smart Energy Iwata has launched a new service called "Iwata Zero-Emi Denki." Under this plan, Smart Energy Iwata will provide electricity with zero CO2 emissions to customers mainly in Iwata City while combining local power sources in the city with J-Credit and other renewable energy certificates.

Smart Energy Iwata aims to be a community-based energy supplier that supplies locally generated power to the local municipality and companies. By the end of this year, the company will incorporate the electricity generated by the wind power plants in Iwata owned by Iwata City and Eco Power Co., Ltd. (President: Toshiyuki Mizui; Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) into its power sources, and will also promote the construction of new gas engine power plant in the area.
Smart Energy Iwata will also receive renewable energy from Urban Energy Corporation, a new power company subsidized by JFE Engineering (President: Yoshihisa Kogasaka; Head Office: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture). By so doing, the company plans for approximately 70% of its total electricity supply*1to come from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biomass (mono-fuel combustion and waste).

The JFE Engineering Group will continue to move forward with efforts to spread the use of renewable energy and actively promote projects to supply locally produced energy to local costumers so that we can develop together with local communities.

  • *1 Based on the overall sales plan for FY 2019. Renewable energy includes FIT electricity.
