JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) formed a joint venture (hereinafter, JV) with Meidensha Corporation (President: Yuji Hamasaki, Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) and Japan Maintenance Engineering Corporation (President: Mitsugu Okahara, Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka) for the "Operation and Maintenance Work for Nakatsuhara Water Purification Plant and Other Facilities" delegated by the Fukuyama City Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau, and began full-scale business on April 1, 2017.
This contract covers all waterworks facilities in Fukuyama City including four main water treatment plants (total capacity: approximately 480,000 m3/d). It is the largest scale of public service delegation for operation and maintenance of total waterworks facilities to a private sector in Japan.
The JV consists of JFE Engineering, which has a wealth of know-how in EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) and management of municipal facilities such as waste to energy plants, Meidensha, which has an extensive record of operation and maintenance for electrical and instrumentation equipment, and Japan Maintenance Engineering, which specializes in the operation of waterworks and sewerage facilities. Thus, the JV can provide one-stop service, from operation and maintenance to proposals for renovation and repair plans.
The JV will support Fukuyama City Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau for their asset management by introducing a cloud system for seamless collection and sharing of operating data to secure safe operation and maintenance. Also, the JV and its group companies that have abundant bases and extensive track records in Fukuyama City and its surrounding area will respond with a full system in case of emergencies such as large-scale disasters.
The JV will surely take over the operation and maintenance of water business carried out by the Fukuyama City Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau, and will work on technological improvement and continuous waterworks business utilizing public-private collaboration.
JFE Engineering will actively participate in wide area waterworks businesses promoted throughout Japan starting from the waterworks businesses of municipality around Fukuyama.
