JFE Shaft Furnace Type High Temperature Gasification and Melting Plant

Pursuing Effective Use of Resources by Melting and Utilizing Waste

In conventional incinerators, incombustible materials in waste are disposed of in the form of incineration bottom ash. JFE’s gasification and melting furnace system gasifies combustibles and melts incombustibles at high temperatures, producing slag and metal which can be safely utilized in various engineering applications.

Applicable to a wide variety of waste

JFE’s gasification and melting system be adjusted to handle a wide range of waste including municipal waste, industrial waste, and even incineration bottom ash and excavated waste. With high-temperature zones of over 1600°C, even hazardous waste such as medical waste can be disposed of safely by JFE’s gasification and melting system.

Innovative Continuous Slag Tapping System

Safe and reliable operation

The Continuous Slag Tapping system, based on steelmaking technology developed by JFE, minimizes the amount of slag tapping work required. Compared to conventional intermittent tapping, this system is safer to operate and does not require special tapping operator skills.

Effective utilization of slag and metals

Contributing to the revitalization of scarce final disposal sites

Incombustible fraction of waste is uniformly melted at high temperatures to produce high-quality, safe slag with low heavy metal content. Slag can be effectively utilized as aggregate for concrete blocks, interlocking tiles, etc., and almost all of the metal can be reused as copper products, significantly reducing the need for final disposal sites.
