JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) recently received an order for expansion of production equipment for rubber material for high performance fuel-efficient tires from Asahi Kasei Synthetic Rubber Singapore Pte. Ltd. (Managing Director: Tatsuya Koike, Head Office: Singapore).
Against the backdrop of increasing demand for tires accompanying greater motorization in the emerging countries and more stringent environmental regulations on tires in countries around the world, strong growth in high performance tires with enhanced fuel efficiency is expected in the future. Asahi Kasei Corporation decided to increase the production capacity of its Singapore plant in order to expand its supply system in response to further growth in demand and satisfy customer needs in the production of rubber material for high performance fuel-efficient tires.
The order received by JFE Engineering is for construction of equipment to expand the existing solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (S-SBR) production plant. The production capacity of the plant will be expanded from the current 100,000 tons/year to 130,000 tons/year.
JFE Engineering has performed design and construction of local energy pipelines and plants of Japanese-affiliated companies producing lubricating oils, or chemical raw materials, at its engineering base in Indonesia for more than 40 years. In addition, JFE's engineering base in Malaysia has also carried out plant construction projects for Japanese-affiliated companies and other work in both Malaysia and Singapore.
For this new project, JFE Engineering will combine the capabilities of those two engineering bases in order to provide JFE's high quality and outstanding cost competitiveness.
In the future, JFE Engineering will continue to support the new entry/expansion projects of Japanese-affiliated companies in Southeast Asia, beginning with petroleum and chemical-related plants.
