Exhaust gas activated carbon adsorption system removes dioxins to extreme low concentration levels

The JFE Gas Clean DX is a compact cartridge type activated carbon adsorption system with a unique structure designed. The low cost system complies with the emissions criterion (= 0.1 ng-TEQ/m3N) specified in the Act on Special Measures against Dioxins. The system features outstanding removal results (dioxins reduced to of 0.01 ng-TEQ/m3N or less and mercury to 10 μg/m3N or less). The smaller size allows economical and easy operation and maintenance. The system is also capable of removing non-dioxin trace hazardous substances discharged from iron works and chemical plants such as benzene.

Appearance of Gas Clean DX

Activated carbon cartridge adopting cross-flow type structure

Example of application flow

Operating temperature: up to approx. 200 deg C

(1)For waste incineration plant furnaces

(2)For ash melting furnaces and electric furnaces for steelmaking

Features

(1)High removal effect

Concentration of dioxins: 0.01 ng-TEQ/m3N or less
Concentration of mercury: 10 μg/m3N or less

Exhaust gas is forced to pass through high adsorption, granular activated carbon layer. The JFE Gas Clean DX is capable of removing dioxins and mercury to concentrations of 0.01 ng-TEQ/m3N or less and 10 μg/m3N or less respectively.

(2)Less space required

Installation area: 1/3 or less that of conventional systems

The cross-flow-structure cartridge improves the efficiency of contact between activated carbon and exhaust gas. As a result the amount of activated carbon fill is significantly reduced. The JFE Gas Clean DX features unparalleled compactness unlike conventional impressibly bulky moving bed type activated carbon adsorption systems. Its compact size enables the system to be installed on existing facilities.

(3)Easy to operate and maintain

Exhaust gas is purified by passing through the fixed activated carbon cartridge that does not contain a drive unit. Thus it requires little daily unit operation and maintenance work saving operation labor. In addition, the filled activated carbon maintains its performance for about a year further reducing costs.

Cartridge replacement flow

Replacing the cartridge about once a year* is the only major piece of maintenance/repair work.

  • * The replacement frequency of the cartridge depends on the volume of gas to be treated or the type or concentration of the substance to be removed.
