Steel caissons and steel L-shaped caissons consist of steel external walls, a steel bulkhead, and an SRC or steel bottom slab.
Although most of the features of these caissons are also those of hybrid caissons, lighter and longer caissons can be constructed as their dead weight during manufacture is light because of the small amount of concrete used. Additional features are a small amount of concrete work and a reduced manufacturing period. Steel caissons and steel L-shaped caissons are widely adopted for their economy and rapid construction as their steel members do not require a long-period anticorrosive function when used for partition of revetment in large-scale land reclamation.
