JFE Engineering Receives Order for WtE Power Plant for Industrial Waste in Thailand

16 February 2018
JFE Engineering Corporation

JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) received an order recently from Marubeni Corporation (President and CEO: Fumiya Kokubu, Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter, Marubeni) for a waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant (generating capacity: 8,630 kW). The plant is to be constructed in the Hemaraj Chonburi Industrial Estate in southeastern Thailand and will receive industrial wastes.

The project in this order is being planned by Chonburi Clean Energy (CCE), a joint venture of Suez Environment, WHA Utilities & Power and Glow Energy. The prime contractor is Marubeni, which has an extensive record of power plant construction in Thailand. JFE Engineering will be responsible for design and procurement of the main equipment and dispatch of supervisors at the time of installation and test operation.

Suez Environment is the largest company of the Water Treatment and WtE plant operator in the world. This will be its first WtE project for industrial wastes in Southeast Asia, therefore the strict standards on a level equivalent to those in Europe are required regarding emission control values. It is believed that JFE's state-of-the-art technologies such as "Hyper Grate," which realizes stable combustion of waste and the "2 way gas flow incinerator," which suppresses dioxins and carbon monoxide in flue gas to low concentrations would be highly evaluated, leading to this order.

The Thai government is giving rise to regulations on the illegal waste disposal, and is also facilitating the introduction of renewable energy under a feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme. A further increase in demand for WtE power plants is expected in the Southeast Asia countries, beginning with Thailand. JFE Engineering will continue to supply various types of environmental technologies suited to the needs of each region of the world in order to contribute to the creation of a recycling society and environmental protection.
