Tokorozawa City (Mayor: Masato Fujimoto), Saitama Prefecture, has agreed to jointly develop a regional new power company with JFE Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Hajime Oshita, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), Hanno-Shinkin Bank (President: Takao Ono, Head Office: Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture) and the Tokorozawa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairperson: Takayoshi Motohashi) with the aim of expanding renewable energy locally. The four partners reach agreements to continue establishing the first new electric power company funded by Saitama Prefecture's in FY2018.

The main featured power source of this new power company will be renewable energy (including FIT electricity*) generated by local waste power plant, and solar power plant, etc. Moreover, it will wildly supply electric power not only directly to public facilities but also to companies with high voltage needs and to households with low voltage needs.

In 2014, Tokorozawa City has drawn up the "Machigoto Ecotown Tokorozawa Concept" and is now continuing with popularizing renewable energy regionally. Urban Energy Corporation (President: Yoshihisa Kogasaka, Head Office: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) is JFE Engineering Corporation's wholly-owned subsidiary, with its own electric power supply-and-demand management system, successfully energetically developing many of regional new energy companies in cooperation with local governments and other local partners. Together with Hanno-Shinkin Bank, which is contributing to the development of regional society by providing financial support to local businesses, and the Tokorozawa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which promotes the growth of businesses in Tokorozawa City through encouragement of regional commerce and industry, the four partners dedicate to provide the reasonable energy costs and reduce environmental loads to build a sustainable society through their extraordinary experiences.

  • * FIT electricity: Electricity using the Feed-In Tariff scheme for renewable energy (system which requires utilities to purchase electricity generated by renewables at a fixed price).
