APP-Albano Power Plant

In Europe the landfilling of wastes is gradually restricted by EU laws for environmental protection and therefore the needs for thermal treatment of waste has been increasing.
Albano Power Plant (APP) will use RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) as fuel to generate electricity.
JFE Engineering was awarded a contract for engineering, procurement and supervising for a gasifier and boiler, the core of the project. COEMA, the project owner is a special purpose company with SCA Group, the largest private waste treatment service company in Rome.
JFE High-temperature Gasifying and Direct Melting System applied to this plant was developed by JFE converting blast furnace technology for steel production to thermal waste treatment technology.
Albano is based on JFE’s Fukuyama Recycle Power Plant in Hiroshima Japan. The client evaluated the high-efficiency power generation and years of stable operation when awarding the contract.
When this project is completed, it will be the largest gasification plant in the world, and will supply electricity to 100,000 households in Rome, the “Eternal City”.
