JFE Engineering Rolls Out New Photocatalytic Air Purifier

TOKYO - JFE Engineering Corporation announced today that it has begun marketing the JFE Photocatalytic Air Purifier, developed as part of a project on living environment solutions undertaken by the Solution Engineering Center this year.

Initially, standard 10W and 20W models will be marketed under the name Sawayaka Kuki or Fresh Air (Model Nos. SKS-10 and SKS-20).

The JFE photocatalytic air purifier combines original Japanese photocatalyst technology with a variety of JFE basic technologies to create a full-fledged air purification system that makes maximum use of the antibacterial and anti-odor properties of photocatalysts. Several times more powerful than ordinary home air purifiers, the unit is able to cover wider areas than conventional home units can adequately deal with.

The system kills airborne bacteria, breaks down toxic substances and strong odors, and makes use of ethylene decomposition to maintain food freshness. Developed as a full-scale commercial unit, it offers users the following advantages:

1. The photocatalytic ceramic filter installed in the system is wrapped around fluorescent lights to improve the ultraviolet light intake rate and produce maximum decomposing capacity.
2. Slits in the air intake control and optimize the flow of air to the photocatalytic unit.
3. Appurtenant filters besides the photocatalyst itself are kept to a bare minimum in order to maximize odor- and bacteria-fighting properties.
4. The unit’s steel body impedes the discharge of toxic substances. No organic solvents are used in the unit’s paint.
5. The simple, no-frills design makes installation suitable anywhere.
In addition to the standard models, JFE Engineering will also be developing larger models and special specifications that tailor the technology to a variety of facilities, plants and other needs. Sales agents will be responsible for marketing the product and bringing full-fledged photocatalytic technology to the enormous range of applications that can benefit from it including use in health-care and geriatric facilities, fresh food sales, processing and storage facilities, veterinary hospitals and pet shops, schools and day-care facilities, hotels and restaurants, and leisure facilities.
